‘Wolf of Wall Street’ is another Hollywood indicator; S&P peaks near movies’ release
You know it’s a market top when Hollywood makes another movie about Wall Street.
That’s the argument behind the chart of the day in Need to Know. The image tracks the S&P 500 SPX since the early 1980s and notes that some of Tinseltown’s biggest movies about finance have come to the screen just about the time the index reached a major top.
The chart is actually from StockTwits’ Howard Lindzon, who notes the apparent success of The Wolf of Wall Street is once again focusing attention on the markets.
Many complained to Lindzon, however, that the chart leaves out “Trading Places” the Eddie Murphy, Dan Ackroyd picture from 1982 that marked the start of the big bull market.
